In the Civil War era, almost everybody sang and typically knew a substantial body of songs. One of the adaptations in this collection of songs favoring the South and secession features Abraham Lincoln and is given the title “Lincoln Going to Canaan,” based on a widely-known song, “The Happy Land of Canaan.”
